Jewelry Design (JD)

A 29-day program of 87 hours with a minimum of 2 students per class arranged in a special package for you to apply the principles of good jewelry design; develop skills needed to create and illustrate designs in full color, actual size and fine details. Finish 19 class projects from your own design concept.

Practice drawing and painting techniques that will help convert your design ideas clearly and appealingly to jewelers, manufacturers, clients and competitions.

  • How to draw, shade and render various gems
    (diamonds, common colored stones and pearls)
    and metals (yellows & white) in full color 
  • How to illustrate different types of jewelry
    views (top, side, end, ellipse and perspective) 
  • How to design men’s and women’s jewelry
  • How to put a customer’s personal features
    and needs into your design 
  • How to know if your design is practical
    for customer and manufacturer 
  • How to do simple counter sketches
  • How to present final designs (framing)
  • How to create detailed views and layouts
    for manufacturing 
  • How to recognize a good design
